This is a lovely telling of a sweet story. When I taught science, my middle school kids were awed to learn that that wind doesn't "look like" anything. Every example they named of what wind looks like was an effect of the wind, not the wind. I'd have them memorize, "Who Has Seen the Wind?" and illustrate the poem as well. This book would be an excellent companion to a science lesson, a place where literature and storytelling is often neglected. The illustrations are charming as well.

Awwwwww. Sweetness in ... ink!

When I was a young girl, my Mommy read the Old Mother West Wind books to me. Your dear story took me back in time, to the simpler days of my childhood, and I thank you for this, Diane. As I am a deep student of metaphysics, I always appreciate metaphors and allegories (are these the same?), so your story made it even clearer to me that one needs to be calm to see one's reflection! I believe that our thoughts and ideas are reflected in the ponds of our lives. I'll remember the Little Wind when I need to see my Calm more clearly! It's my Better me!! :<))

I heard the Old Mother West Wind books from my grandmother. I think it was in the back of my mind when I wrote The Little Wind, and that Little Wind may actually be one of the Merry Little Breezes from those books. Thank you for reminding me of those stories, which my soul has never completely forgotten.
