Thank you Suzanna! I virtually always carry my camera with me when I walk or drive anywhere. These photos all came essentially while I was on my way to town to do errands.
Well if we get another snow (which I fervently hope for), you will probably see them now. You might need to have your binoculars with you when you're in the car. But when you see little birds out on the snowy field, it's probably these guys.
i always thought of these as our earliest returnees...but here i learn they are around all winter! I saw a lot of these when along the highways heading north a few days ago. such a happy sight.
Thank you for commenting! Yep, all year round here in Iowa. And most of the country. There are several species of larks (like the Skylark Shelley wrote about, "Hail to thee blythe spirit"), but this is the only one native to North America.

I have lived in the country in Iowa for 26 years and have never seen them! Beautiful bird!
