Well hopefully ChatGPT did learn something from you! I prefer using Perplexity AI for those kinds of questions because it tells you all the sources it gets its info from.
I've had a similar experience with chatGPT. When i brought the fact to it's attention that it was using redundant phrasing it acknowledged the fact, thanked me for pointing it out and that going forward it would take this information into consideration.
Uh, yeah, and did it? I suspect we advise ChatGPT, and it says oh for sure that's what I'll do from now on. Because some algorithm makes it say that, but I don't see evidence that it actually "means" it or changes the way it does stuff. Do you?
It’s nice to know others have appreciated the beauty of those golden slippers and wondered the same thing. I wonder, too, what will happen when those crazy people who scream the loudest, ie…those causing so much fear and spreading so much hatred right now in our country, figure out they can have an effect on the “Learning" algorithm we know as AI and start debating with it as you did. The thought scares the hell out of me. I hope they remain ignorant of that possibility.
I really can't imagine how AI evaluates the validity of "facts" and how the algorithms get set. I agree it is scary. We are most peculiar, we homo sapiens, in the stuff we dream up. Thanks for your thoughtful comment! I like your voice.
I love your lesson to Chat. It is a strange concept to most of us, and there are so many choices. They all have different uses and strengths. Personally, I fluctuate between frustration (even though I'm good at the queries), amazement, appreciation when it's useful, and that fear of what happens when it's used wrong.
Not really. I’d say in general, my feelings are mixed. On one hand, I can see it as a tool—just like any new technology—and can see applications for it that would be useful and interesting. On the other, I fear its capacity to distort (or maybe I should say be used as a tool of distortion of) “reality.” I fear people being fed and believing far more dangerous “theorizing” than what Chat fed you, for example.
Agreed. Especially if people think something is true just because Chat feeds it to them. Still, I find it very useful for locating source material. It has helped me find original research that I can then read and evaluate.
thanks for sharing your (?) dialogue! and for challenging the cyber world that seems to be engulfing us! Hope I'm not too old to learn from your experience! Someday I may even try figure out what ChatGPT 4o is!
It's a quick way to find published writings about research, which I can then look up to find what the writers said. I wouldn't believe something just because ChatGPT 4o reports it. It gives very wrong answers sometimes. It once generated a map for me in which it labeled Egypt as the Mediterranean Sea. My skills in asking questions are no doubt deficient, I'll admit
Thank you for teaching Chat what you will accept, Diane. I wonder: is the lesson specific to you, or will Chat generalize to other users? I've been using it for research almost daily, and have found it amazingly helpful. The other day, I wanted to push it to a conclusion (one I wanted), but it came back with a thoughtful warning: "I wouldn't take it that far. Here are some problems you might consider." Oh, how I loved that! I've been saying that Chat is the best graduate assistant I ever sent to a library. But now I'm thinking of this more like a grad seminar, and Chat is co-leading. 🤨
Thank you for bringing this up, and with such an instructive example!
Well, it did say it would accept my suggestion in general. Will it? Or was that just what the algorithm instructs it to say? I wish I knew. It is amazing though how fast it comes up with factual answers. Wrong sometimes, but a great place to find out what to look up.
U R AweSome, Diane! Standing up to The Supreme Advanced Intelligence!! How Brave and Wise of you! I've been doin' battle with 'er...or 'im, or whatever IT is, for some weeks now...
as only I would... (Ask my hubby!)...but so far, we're in a StandStill...StandOff?... (AI, not hubby!) Well, whatever...SOMEbody's got to put it in its place! Besides, IT should be asking YOU about birds and such. Duh!! ;<))
You know, Gloria, I didn't notice those golden feet for decades. Until that particular kinglet came up close and showed them off. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.

Good tip! Thanks Sally-Ann

They look good in boots.
Wish I had some like that. Well, not really, but if I were a fashion lady I would.
Go get'em, Diane! Schooling AI is so the Diane I know and love.
Bwa ha ha. I had no idea you were on to me.
Thanks Patty. You are fun.
Fantastic verbal connection. And very funny!
Thanks, Diane!
Much appreciated, Denyce.

Amen Sister to all of that! Thanks for commenting.
Hahaha love this, and gorgeous first pic!
Thanks for your comment and kindness, Amaranta.
Yasss! We need people to teach Chat these things. This was a really fun post, Diane. :)
I'm glad you liked it. I haven't yet worked out how I feel about AI. Have you?

The question I'm mulling is whether there is any actual intelligence in AI.
oh hahahah
So funny. You were definitely in the presence of some intelligence -- YOURS!
Interesting about the kinglet's feet. Never thought of the feet before.
You know, Gloria, I didn't notice those golden feet for decades. Until that particular kinglet came up close and showed them off. Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.
I (a living human) hear you! (But when I started typing you a comment, the blog program was worried I was a bot...)
Yours is the funniest thing I've read all day. Thanks for that.
Dayummm!😮
Well thayanx, I think.
You're fun. And a total boss. Respect!!!
