Lovely toads! I saw ours this morning, hunkered down by the watering bowl we've set down for small creatures. Thank you for the delightful photos, audio--and narrative, too!

Oh I love this piece, Diane, and toads. And that recording!! There was a frog pond recently I’d stand near to listen to the calls. So enchanting.

This put me in mind of Frog and Toad too. ;)

Fascinating creatures. I love frogs and toads. A large Toad Hollow toad guards my patio fountain.

Sounds like a pretty ornament. I hope the toads use it. Thanks for commenting.

In a way toads ARE frogs. I mean, toads are a subset of frogs. But I think the singing of the American Toad is the most musical of all the frog sounds. I feel as if I'm listening to the sacred hymns from another world. (Of course, I realize toads are totally THIS world!)

Two feet down! I had no idea. How wonderful.

Yes, and I do wonder how they get along with no air. I mean, they're hibernating, but they are still alive!

No toads yet this year, just one garter snake.

Diane, I love knowing about your happy toad making your garden his/her home! I used to have a croaking tree frog come and sit outside my open workroom window in the evening. I was in the habit of listening to audiobooks and the frog was attracted to the voices! But the frogs had to be careful of our garter snakes which would try to make a meal of them.

BTW - I still see the occasional bee and yellow jackets prowling around the fir tree in the morning. I have noticed that the tree has tiny 'tears' of moisture on its tips. I don't think this is dew but rather some very small weeping of the tree. Perhaps the bees are attracted to it? Certainly, I see yellow jackets are attracted to the bowls of water the I leave on the ground for the birds. Now I will be looking for a toad or frog footprint there., too. 😃✨

Don't you just love tree frogs when they take up residence on and around the house!
