I love this post! Yes, the first singing Robin of the year is the song of the promise of spring. I heard ours in the backyard just a few days ago, even though he's been back for a week. It was around sunset and sounded like a warm spring breeze feels. I didn't move. I just listened and felt honored to be there to hear him.
when i hear that first robin singing its rolling evening song... my awareness is pierced, no matter what i am doing and a flood of happy relief permeates my body. The rasayana of bird song is sooo healing. For my grey/brown winter weary eyes. that impossibly rich chestnut color is positively activating... and I feel like rummaging around in my garden too. Maybe not looking for worms to eat, but more spring arrivals like snowdrops, winter aconite and a brave crocus or two to get me through March. Thank you for these beautiful pictures of this hardy thrush we all love.

Listening...
Stopping a moment
From folding towels,
I see a Robin outside the window....
Listening...listening...
Intent to hear
A worm.
How could he??
But I knew.
Focus his key---
Blocking out all else.
In the distance a dog barked
Our Congratulations!
