Thanks, Diane. It's the title of my last book, and many of my posts are partially based on excerpts from that book. I feel it is my camera gear that forces me to go out and partake of the miracle we're a part of.
I actually do not recommend putting up housing for wrens. They don't need our help, as they can nest in a million creative places, and they are very destructive to other nesting birds.
I maintain that one wren house myself, because it is such a lovely thing and reminds me of my beloved friend Jack, who made it. And I enjoy the wrens. But I would not put up another birdhouse for wrens.
At the moment the bluebird house in my backyard has the hole blocked, because the bluebirds didn't start defending it in time this year, and the wrens tried to claim it. Later in the season, when the wrens are less overwhelming in their pressure and the bluebirds come around looking for a site for their third nesting, I'll open it up again and see if the bluebirds can hold it. I did that last year and enjoyed the one bluebird brood where I could watch from the kitchen.
Thanks for sharing. My family, too, talked of the Jennie wren. My grandma's Jennie nested in granddad's overalls hung on the line to dry more than one year--or memory makes it seem so.
I would love to have seen the overalls with a pocketful of wren. Thanks for that. I'll bet Grandpa found something else to wear until the babies fledged.
I love wrens. That's a great story and a wonderful experience.
Such a great tale of wonder and love.
I seem to have no wrens in my new environs. I miss the rattlesnake scoldings!
You know? You're right! It does sound like Thea rattlesnake. Nice observation. Thanks!
Fabulous!! You are a bird whisper! ❤️
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful and inspiring story and movie!!
Moni you are always fun to write for.
I'm envious. It is so special when wild things trust you like that.
I like your name! Worshipping with a camera. Cool!

Ooh. She took a peeler! This is so dear. I wish I could love house wrens as you do, but alas! I am on Team Bluebird here in Ohio!
Ah yes, and I am well aware of the dark side of the house wren. But their cuteness is irresistible to me, despite their depredations
I used to keep the wren houses far away from the bluebird houses.
We're on Team Bluebird as well -- if we put a wren house a distance away, will they still go after the bluebirds?
Yes.

I really enjoyed reading about your wrens! And that video is so lovely, for her to trust you that much ❤️
I love wrens too. That video is adorable, how wonderful to have such a friendly wren visiting!
